Overview
For my UX Design class, I created Amp'd: a community-driven music app where users can share collaborative playlists, reviews, and listening activity with their friends. It was an exciting opportunity to take an idea from concept to completion, and I enjoyed every step of the design process.
Time Frame
3 Months
Highlights
Extensively conducted generative and secondary research to gain an in-depth understanding of the target audience and to inform the development of product features.
Created key user flows that resulted in the creation of medium fidelity wireframes for user testing.
Designed a playful and enjoyable visual experience that meets the requirements of the iOS design guidelines and is accessible to all users.
Generative Research
I want to ask people questions about their music listening habits to better understand what they like and don't like so that I can make something that they would enjoy using. I want to know who they are and what everyday life is like for them so I can make something that fits their lives better.
Research Plan
Topic
Collaborative listening and social features within music streaming.
Background
This exploratory interview will support the development of an application that helps connect music listeners across platforms and provide a collaborative community for them.
Goals
This set of interviews aims to discover participant habits around music listening, learn about what social features they would like in a collaborative music listening application, and learn more about their mental model for music listening.
Methodology
This will be a 1:1 digital interview that lasts at most 15 minutes. The goal is to interview five people. Interviews will happen either on Zoom or face-to-face. Participants are selected to be a diverse group of people.
Participant Screening
Age range - 20-30
Must be using at least one music streaming service
Somewhat interested in listening to music
Sample Interview Questions
How much does music value in your life?
What music streaming services do you use?
What are some social features you like in the music app you use?
What social aspects would you like in music streaming apps?
Would you consider switching to a different streaming service if they did something unethical? What would be the most difficult obstacle for you to make the switch?
Do you have friends and family using different streaming services?
Would you like an app that helps connect you to those people that use different streaming services?
What are your thoughts on collaborative playlists?
What features you’d like to have in a cross-platform social music app?
Secondary Research
I was browsing through TikTok and came across a video with over 75K likes that discussed how Spotify needs to be more social. I've included some screenshots of the comments, which I found to be quite interesting and valuable to my research.
